  • Louisiana Governor Launches the First Ever Cyber Security Education Center in the State with Cybint and BPCC - The Cyber Center, which will be housed on the BPCC campus, will offer Cybint’s comprehensive suite of multi-level cyber education and workforce development offerings for cybersecurity professionals and students across Louisiana. Classes will range from cyber literacy for non-technical professionals to advanced, hands-on simulation-labs and a cyber-range environment for those pursuing a cyber-security career.
  • BPCC Named to 2019-2020 Military Friendly® Schools List College receives highest distinction of any 2-year or 4-year school in Louisiana - Bossier Parish Community College is pleased to announce it has earned the 2019-2020 Military Friendly® School designation for the 8th consecutive year. WHAT’S HOT @ LA TECH?

  • Fall 2019 Louisiana Tech College of Engineering & Science will open the doors to a 130,000sqft Integrated Engineering & Science Building, one block from downtown Ruston. The new addition will serve underclassmen in engineering, computer science, physics, chemistry, & math. This facility will continue the integrated, hands-on curriculum approach the college is known for through Living with the Lab and Living with Cyber experiences.
  • Pre-Medical Illustration and Scientific Visualization at Louisiana Tech University are interdisciplinary minors where faculty from art, biology, and engineering work together to offer students a unique opportunity to pursue a dual passion for science and art. Pursuit of one of these minors prepares students for graduate school and future careers in medical and scientific illustration.  In addition, both minors require an internship which provide students with real life client experience and valuable material for their professional portfolio.
  • Green Clinic is proud to have been selected to provide primary care services on the campus of Louisiana Tech University.  Located in the Lambright Sports and Wellness Center, TechCare is a walk-in primary care clinic staffed by Certified Nurse Practitioners.  A full-service facility, we offer treatment for minor injuries and illness, as well as immunizations, lab testing, administration of allergy shots, education on healthcare topics,  and so much more.  All Tech students, faculty, staff and families, along with the University community are welcome.  We accept most insurances and credit cards. 

 

Nunez Community College

WHAT’S HOT @ NUNEZ?

  • Starting in August we will launch our Coastal studies and GIS Technology program. The focus of this program is Geospatial Information Science(GIS) Technology and the ability to apply it to Coastal Studies. Students in this program will obtain in-demand skills in surveying and mapping with drones. A position described as a four-star job by the Louisiana Workforce Commission.
  • Our Aerospace Manufacturing Technology program is blasting off after just one year. We recently had our first round of certificate completers and all of them were hired by Boeing or NASA. We are proud to say that our students will be building the next rocket that will be going to the moon and then on to Mars.
  • This May, Nunez had the largest number of completers in our existence. We had a total of over 1000 credentials conferred.  

 

Southeastern Louisiana University

WHAT’S HOT @ SOUTHEASTERN?

  • Two new residence halls opened their doors to students starting the Fall 2018 semester - Twelve Oaks Hall & Ascension Hall. There are double room and single-suite options available in each of these halls. Both halls will use a hybrid geothermal system for heating and cooling, which is projected to reduce energy costs. Community lounges and quiet study rooms will be located throughout each of these buildings. One of the halls will have a retail food venue for students, while the other will have a living/learning classroom for instructors to host classes.   • Top Ranking continues to come in for Southeastern’s academic programs and once again Forbes’ listed Southeastern in America’s Top Colleges in 2018.  The Supply Chain Management Program has been recognized among the top in the nation, the Executive MBA program has earned national recognition as one of the top 10 in the nation, Lions Connected received national recognition, and Southeastern was only one of five in the Southeast listed as “Colleges with Great Television Stations.”  
  • Lions Connected, a Southeastern Louisiana University Department of Teaching and Learning program that provides personalized, post-secondary educational experiences for individuals with intellectual disabilities, has received national recognition.   A comprehensive transition and post-secondary program approved by the U.S. Department of Education, Lions Connected was named the Exemplary Program for Vocational Training and Transition from the American Council on Rural Special Education (ACRES)
  • Southeastern prepares to install a third concentration, Welding Technology into the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology program. The state of Louisiana needs well-prepared and trained industrial team members at the professional level. This partnership will produce supervisory and managerial industrial professionals with higher skill sets, which should help the economic expansion continue.

  • Construction = progress. The B. Freeman School of Business recently completed a $35 million, LEED Gold Certified renovation and expansion that will includes new incubator and start-up spaces, new flexible classrooms, a new financial analysis lab, an expansion of the Business Career Management Center, and more. Tulane also launched the Brain Institute to coordinate and support brain-related research and neuroscience endeavors from faculty and students in Medicine, Science & Engineering, Public Health, Liberal Arts & the Primate Center.   • The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) has received initial approval from the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA), to recruit students for the College’s campus located on the campus of the University of Louisiana Monroe. VCOM-Louisiana has a collaborative public-private partnership with ULM, which includes collaborations for shared faculty and resources in research and education and additional shared student resources for both VCOM and ULM students. The main campus, currently under construction, will be located in a beautiful setting along the Bayou DeSiard.   • The ULM Office of Information Technology has established the region's first state of the art virtual reality classroom and innovation center. The Thomas J. Nicholson Virtual Reality Lab is the latest IT initiative that will enhance the traditional classroom learning experience.   • The National Weather Service credits the University of Louisiana Monroe’s Doppler radar system as vital in helping save untold lives when an EF3 tornado struck Ruston, LA in the early morning hours. ULM’s Doppler radar system delivered NWS-Shreveport meteorologists up-to-the-minute information that the Shreveport radar failed to detect.   • UNO is entering into its second year as a member of the Common Application and is continuing to see a spike in applications from Louisiana students looking to take advantage of this efficient resource.
  • Our Dual Enrollment program continues to expand throughout Louisiana, providing students with a head start on their UNO degree.
  • UNO has recently renovated multiple learning spaces across campus including a newly expanded Learning Resource Center and state-of-the-art Student Learning Commons in the Earl K. Long Library. Our library is now open 24 hours a day, Sunday - Thursday to give our students more access to study for exams. In addition, UNO continues to expand their 24/7 online tutoring options.
  • UNO also launched an interactive instant messaging service that allows visitors to our admissions website to instantly connect to a representative from the university.   • BPCC NURSING PROGRAM IS A LEADER IN NWLA, U.S.

 

BPCC announced recently that its Nursing Program is second in the United States for 2017 in NCLEX-RN education programs with a score of 92.93%, which is 5.08% above the national average of 87.85%. The program had a 100% employment rate for fall 2017 graduates and a National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX)-RN pass rate of 95.89% for fall 2017 graduates.

  • BPCC AND UT Tyler ANNOUNCE first ever 2+2 AGREEMENT

 

BPCC and The University of Texas at Tyler signed the first-ever 2+2 articulation agreement between the two schools, as well as the first-ever articulation agreement to cross state lines!

The agreement allows BPCC students who have completed an associate degree in Industrial Technology in the Automation and Controls or Advanced Manufacturing and Mechatronics concentrations to apply their two years of study to UT Tyler's Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology.

Bossier Parish Community College’s Dual Enrollment program is proud to announce the graduation of eight area high school students, who earned a postsecondary credential while simultaneously earning their high school diploma, during BPCC’s spring graduation ceremonies in May. 

The dual enrollment students earned a total of five associate degrees, five certificates, and two technical diplomas.

  • LSU Eunice is an open-admission university; therefore, there is no specific admission deadline.  LSUE recommends that applications for admission be completed as early as possible so that students can secure their class schedules early.

 

WHAT’S HOT @ LSUE?

  • LSU Eunice has two new degree programs in the high demand fields of surgical technology and sonography.  Surgical Technology is a newly created associate degree program, and the university upgraded the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program to an associate degree starting in the fall of 2018.  LSUE now offers a nursing clinical classroom site at Lafayette General Hospital Southwest, allowing acceptance of up to 90 additional students into the clinical phase of the program.
  • LSU Eunice has expanded its athletics programs to include men’s basketball and soccer for men and women.  Bengal Baseball won its 6th NJCAA National Championship this year, which set an NJCAA Division II record for the most titles by a university.  LSUE's softball and baseball teams have won a national championship for nine consecutive years and have won 11 out of the last 13 national titles. 
  • LSUE is in the final stage of renovations to Bengal Village apartments and has just completed a total renovation of the student union cafeteria that includes a Starbucks coffee shop.

  • Elementary Education – Louisiana Tech's Elementary Education program was rated #2 in the nation and #1 in the state of Louisiana according to com. The ranking is derived from data collected from U.S. News &World Report, Pay Scale, and Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS). A large part of the College of Education's success has been the implementation of year-long, clinical residencies to replace traditional student teaching methods, which gives students an immersive classroom experience and simulates their first year of teaching.
  • New Housing Options – New housing will provide 604 beds on campus. These suites offer semi-private rooms (two students per room) and gathering areas with family amenities for each group of  8 students. The common area includes a kitchen, lounge area and an exterior patio. The idea is for this community-based structure to provide unique options to integrate freshman into campus culture, support healthy relationship development with peers, and allow individual engagement between housing staff and each student.

 

  • UTeachTech – The UTeachTech program is designed to nurture and train a new teaching force of highly qualified instructors in STEM subjects — Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Sponsored by the College of Education, the College of Arts and Natural Sciences, and the College of Engineering and Sciences, UTeachTechprovides an opportunity for undergraduate students majoring in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Engineering to receive both their subject matter degree and full teaching certification in four years at no extra cost.

 

  • Nursing Program – Because Tech’s nursing program is so thorough, the NCLEX pass rate and RN job placement rate is consistently above the national average with 100% job placement the last 3 years in a row. Graduates who complete their associates degree in nursing will have the same title and responsibilities as those who complete a 4-year bachelor degree at another school.

 

  • Engineering Building – The new Integrated Engineering and Science Building is set to be ready for students Fall of 2019. Not only does this 130,000 sq. ft., three-story building house engineering and science classrooms, it will also include rooms for “Living with the Lab” activities, a coffee shop, numerous labs, a student help desk/achievement center, and plenty of room for students to study and interact. According to Hisham Hegab, dean of the College of Engineering and Science, the IESE is designed to better accommodate project-based learning that traditional classrooms hinder due to lack of space and resources.

WHAT’S HOT @ SOUTHEASTERN?

  • Two new residence halls will be open, starting during the Fall 2018 semester - Twelve Oaks Hall & Ascension Hall. There are double room and single-suite options available in each of these halls. Both halls will use a hybrid geothermal system for heating and cooling, which is projected to reduce energy costs. Community lounges and quiet study rooms will be located throughout each of these buildings. One of the halls will have a retail food venue for students, while the other will have a living/learning classroom for instructors to host classes.   • Southeastern is partnering with Performance Contractors in Baton Rouge to add a new academic concentration in Welding Inspection & Supervision. This new concentration will fall under the Industrial Technology program. We are in need of well-prepared and trained industrial team members at the professional level in the state of Louisiana, and Southeastern is committed to providing opportunity to students to become job-ready in those areas. This partnership will produce supervisory and managerial industrial professionals with greater skill sets which should help the economic expansion continue.

 

  • Southeastern's dance team, The Lionettes, earned the gold medal at the 2018 UCA & UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championships in Orlando, Florida. Southeastern claimed the first gold medal in program history for the Division I Hip Hop.

  • Construction = progress. The A. B. Freeman School of Business recently completed a $35 million, LEED Gold Certified renovation and expansion that will includes new incubator and start-up spaces, new flexible classrooms, a new financial analysis lab, an expansion of the Business Career Management Center, and more.   • New Maker Space - To support students’ hands-on learning in Architecture, Engineering, Business, Arts, and other disciplines, Tulane opened a new Maker Space which is equipped with 3-D printers, laser cutters, a 4-axis CNC milling machine, a full-equipped machine shop, wood shop, electronics laboratory, and more. Staff are on hand up to 50 hours per week and Tulane students have free use of the tools and equipment.

WHAT’S HOT @ ULM?

  • Opening of Bayou Pointe Event Center & Spirit Hall- Through the initiative of ULM Students and the Student Government Association (SGA), the Oxford Natatorium underwent renovated to become a Student Event Center with ballrooms, spirit group practice area, a small theater with reception area, and outdoor social deck overlooking the beautiful Bayou Desiard.

 

  • Chemistry Reinstated – The University has reinstated the Bachelors of Science in Chemistry for the fall 2018. The degree will offer concentrations in biochemistry, forensics and medicinal chemistry.

 

  • Growth in Health Sciences- ULM’s Master of Science in Nursing Nurse Practitioner now offers two concentration in Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner. In addition, the Doctoral Programs in both Physical and Occupational Therapy are in the final approval stages.  The first expected class should begin in fall of 2020.

 

  • ULM is the process of developing an agreement with the Via School of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM). Pending an expected approval from the ULS Board of Supervisors, groundbreaking for the Medical school will occur in September. The first class expected to start fall 2020.  This will be the first partnership of its kind in the state of Louisiana.

 

  • ULM is the final process of developing an agreement with the Edward Via School of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM). VCOM is a private, non-profit osteopathic medical school founded on the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, with two branch campuses located in Spartanburg, South Carolina and Auburn University, in Auburn, Alabama. This partnership will be the first of its kind in the state of Louisiana. Pending final agreement, groundbreaking for the medical school on ULM’s campus is to take place in September. The first class expected to start fall 2020.
