Centenary College of Louisiana

  • Centenary has added the following athletic teams this year - Competitive Cheer, Competitive Dance, Track & Field, Cross Country, and Men's Volleyball (Club ). We will be adding an ESports Team and STUNT Team for fall 2021.

 

  • Centenary has an average of 94% acceptance rate into medical school over the past 5 years.

Delgado Community College

Made possible in part through the generous donations of Leon “Kix” Brooks of Brooks & Dunn, this space includes Solid State Logic’s Origin, a 32- channel analog studio console for studio recording, mixing, and mastering. Louisiana Tech is the first university in the world, and one of only three places in North America, to own this advanced technology.

 

  • By Fall 2021, a brand new baseball facility, soccer complex and softball complex will be complete, allowing our D-1 student athletes to compete at the top of their games.

  • Call Me MISTER Program - Call me MISTER (Mentors Instructing Students Toward Effective Role Models) addresses the critical shortage of minority male teachers in America’s classrooms. It's an initiative aimed at recruiting African American males to be teachers and mentors, particularly at low-performing schools. The first cohort of students will launch this Fall. Applications for Call me MISTER will be reviewed on a competitive basis each spring for consideration for cohorts that will begin each fall semester.

    Preference will be given to graduating high school seniors; two-year community college transfers; and first-year college freshmen. Eligible candidates will be selected based upon their potential for teaching and their motivation for participation in the program.

    Prospective Misters must be a minority male and come from an underserved, socioeconomically disadvantaged, and/or educationally at-risk community. They must major in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Health & Physical Education or Music Education and demonstrate record high scholastic achievement and participation in extra-curricular and community service activities.

    Misters will benefit from financial assistance to help cover tuition and fees, instructional support and preparation for licensure exams, a cohort system for social and cultural support and leadership development. They will gain immediate exposure to a classroom environment and job placement assistance after graduation.

 

  • Expanded Opportunities for Scholarships and Involvement - NSU's brand new, 4,000 square foot, E Sports Venue will be open this fall. There will be scholarship opportunities for all competitive E Sports Athletes. There are other opportunities to gain financial assistance through involvement with the Collegiate Fishing Team, President's Leadership Program, and even the CREW (Rowing) Team. The program has online and convenient class schedules with 33 credit hours and degree completion in two years or less.


Bachelors of Science in Health Sciences. This degree prepares students to pursue a variety of career opportunities in public health, health care, population health and other health science related industries or graduate programs in occupational therapy, physical therapy, athletic training, and physician assistant.

  • BPCC NURSING PROGRAM IS A LEADER IN NWLA, U.S.

 

BPCC announced recently that its Nursing Program is second in the United States for 2017 in NCLEX-RN education programs with a score of 92.93%, which is 5.08% above the national average of 87.85%. The program had a 100% employment rate for fall 2017 graduates and a National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX)-RN pass rate of 95.89% for fall 2017 graduates.

  • BPCC AND UT Tyler ANNOUNCE first ever 2+2 AGREEMENT

 

BPCC and The University of Texas at Tyler signed the first-ever 2+2 articulation agreement between the two schools, as well as the first-ever articulation agreement to cross state lines!

The agreement allows BPCC students who have completed an associate degree in Industrial Technology in the Automation and Controls or Advanced Manufacturing and Mechatronics concentrations to apply their two years of study to UT Tyler's Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology.

Bossier Parish Community College’s Dual Enrollment program is proud to announce the graduation of eight area high school students, who earned a postsecondary credential while simultaneously earning their high school diploma, during BPCC’s spring graduation ceremonies in May.

WHAT’S HOT @ LSUE?

  • LSU Eunice has two new degree programs in the high demand fields of surgical technology and sonography.  Surgical Technology is a newly created associate degree program, and the university upgraded the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program to an associate degree starting in the fall of 2018.  LSUE now offers a nursing clinical classroom site at Lafayette General Hospital Southwest, allowing acceptance of up to 90 additional students into the clinical phase of the program.
  • LSU Eunice has expanded its athletics programs to include men’s basketball and soccer for men and women.  Bengal Baseball won its 6th NJCAA National Championship this year, which set an NJCAA Division II record for the most titles by a university.  LSUE's softball and baseball teams have won a national championship for nine consecutive years and have won 11 out of the last 13 national titles. 
  • LSUE is in the final stage of renovations to Bengal Village apartments and has just completed a total renovation of the student union cafeteria that includes a Starbucks coffee shop.

  • First of its kind- LSUS Cyber Collaboratory.  This collaboratory is specifically designed for student interaction, group activities, and classroom projects in the fields of cybersecurity, robotics, artificial intelligence, app development, and haptics.

  • Elementary Education – Louisiana Tech's Elementary Education program was rated #2 in the nation and #1 in the state of Louisiana according to com. The ranking is derived from data collected from U.S. News &World Report, Pay Scale, and Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS). A large part of the College of Education's success has been the implementation of year-long, clinical residencies to replace traditional student teaching methods, which gives students an immersive classroom experience and simulates their first year of teaching.
  • New Housing Options – New housing will provide 604 beds on campus. These suites offer semi-private rooms (two students per room) and gathering areas with family amenities for each group of  8 students. The common area includes a kitchen, lounge area and an exterior patio. The idea is for this community-based structure to provide unique options to integrate freshman into campus culture, support healthy relationship development with peers, and allow individual engagement between housing staff and each student.

 

  • UTeachTech – The UTeachTech program is designed to nurture and train a new teaching force of highly qualified instructors in STEM subjects — Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Sponsored by the College of Education, the College of Arts and Natural Sciences, and the College of Engineering and Sciences, UTeachTechprovides an opportunity for undergraduate students majoring in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Engineering to receive both their subject matter degree and full teaching certification in four years at no extra cost.

 

  • Nursing Program – Because Tech’s nursing program is so thorough, the NCLEX pass rate and RN job placement rate is consistently above the national average with 100% job placement the last 3 years in a row. Graduates who complete their associates degree in nursing will have the same title and responsibilities as those who complete a 4-year bachelor degree at another school.

 

  • Engineering Building – The new Integrated Engineering and Science Building is set to be ready for students Fall of 2019. Not only does this 130,000 sq. ft., three-story building house engineering and science classrooms, it will also include rooms for “Living with the Lab” activities, a coffee shop, numerous labs, a student help desk/achievement center, and plenty of room for students to study and interact. According to Hisham Hegab, dean of the College of Engineering and Science, the IESE is designed to better accommodate project-based learning that traditional classrooms hinder due to lack of space and resources.

WHAT’S HOT @ SOUTHEASTERN?

  • Two new residence halls will be open, starting during the Fall 2018 semester - Twelve Oaks Hall & Ascension Hall. There are double room and single-suite options available in each of these halls. Both halls will use a hybrid geothermal system for heating and cooling, which is projected to reduce energy costs. Community lounges and quiet study rooms will be located throughout each of these buildings. One of the halls will have a retail food venue for students, while the other will have a living/learning classroom for instructors to host classes.   • Southeastern is partnering with Performance Contractors in Baton Rouge to add a new academic concentration in Welding Inspection & Supervision. This new concentration will fall under the Industrial Technology program. We are in need of well-prepared and trained industrial team members at the professional level in the state of Louisiana, and Southeastern is committed to providing opportunity to students to become job-ready in those areas. This partnership will produce supervisory and managerial industrial professionals with greater skill sets which should help the economic expansion continue.

 

  • Southeastern's dance team, The Lionettes, earned the gold medal at the 2018 UCA & UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championships in Orlando, Florida. Southeastern claimed the first gold medal in program history for the Division I Hip Hop.

  • Construction = progress. The A. B. Freeman School of Business recently completed a $35 million, LEED Gold Certified renovation and expansion that will includes new incubator and start-up spaces, new flexible classrooms, a new financial analysis lab, an expansion of the Business Career Management Center, and more. Tulane also launched the Brain Institute to coordinate and support brain-related research and neuroscience endeavors from faculty and students in Medicine, Science & Engineering, Public Health, Liberal Arts & the Primate Center.   • New Maker Space - To support students’ hands-on learning in Architecture, Engineering, Business, Arts, and other disciplines, Tulane opened a new Maker Space which is equipped with 3-D printers, laser cutters, a 4-axis CNC milling machine, a full-equipped machine shop, wood shop, electronics laboratory, and more. Staff are on hand up to 50 hours per week and Tulane students have free use of the tools and equipment.

WHAT’S HOT @ ULM?

  • Opening of Bayou Pointe Event Center & Spirit Hall- Through the initiative of ULM Students and the Student Government Association (SGA), the Oxford Natatorium underwent renovated to become a Student Event Center with ballrooms, spirit group practice area, a small theater with reception area, and outdoor social deck overlooking the beautiful Bayou Desiard.

 

  • Chemistry Reinstated – The University has reinstated the Bachelors of Science in Chemistry for the fall 2018. The degree will offer concentrations in biochemistry, forensics and medicinal chemistry.

 

  • Growth in Health Sciences- ULM’s Master of Science in Nursing Nurse Practitioner now offers two concentration in Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner. In addition, the Doctoral Programs in both Physical and Occupational Therapy are in the final approval stages.  The first expected class should begin in fall of 2020.

 

  • ULM is the process of developing an agreement with the Via School of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM). Pending an expected approval from the ULS Board of Supervisors, groundbreaking for the Medical school will occur in September. The first class expected to start fall 2020.  This will be the first partnership of its kind in the state of Louisiana.

 

  • ULM is the final process of developing an agreement with the Edward Via School of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM). VCOM is a private, non-profit osteopathic medical school founded on the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, with two branch campuses located in Spartanburg, South Carolina and Auburn University, in Auburn, Alabama. This partnership will be the first of its kind in the state of Louisiana. Pending final agreement, groundbreaking for the medical school on ULM’s campus is to take place in September. The first class expected to start fall 2020.
